Shonto Ranch offers spring-time turkey hunts for Texas' rio grande turkey.  Our ranch receives VERY LIGHT turkey hunting pressure, so our birds are not call shy.  There are many roosting areas along the creek-bottoms and tall hardwoods on our ranch, and in the spring time strutting turkey can easily be seen all day long in the open fields while driving around the ranch.  Mature gobblers have beards in the 8-10 inch range, and a large number of breeding hens keep the population of turkey high on Shonto Ranch from season to season.

Since offering these special spring-time Rio Grande turkey hunts, the ranch has enjoyed a 100% success rate on gobblers.

We are offering 10 birds only this year.  There are over 100 mature gobblers in the area.  Trips can be booked with 2-3 people, and you will enjoy 3 days and 2 nights exclusive use of the ranch, with lodging in our scenic creekhouse, day use of our rustic, lakeside party pavilion and complimentary rainbow trout fishing. Semi-guided, you will be hunting groups of gobblers in various pockets around the ranch, and seeing a 10 inch beard is not unusual. Dining can be found just 8 minutes away in Kerrville.

Due to a current overpopulation of exotic does, one exotic doe (axis or blackbuck) is also included.  This is a great way to put some tasty deer meat in your freezer in the off season.
